Life In Plastic… Is Fantastic!

Bet you didn’t think plastic was ever going to catch on big, right?! I mean, this past decade, we - as a world -, have been trying to cut our plastic usage. We’ve already seen many of our favorite stores switch from plastic and paper bags to cotton ones. Even major fashion retailers - if you’ve noticed. But even so, somehow, even after being banished into the underworld for so long, plastic is finding its way back into the fashion realm. How could that be?!

Well… A big part of that, is big names in big places, helping it along. We’ve seen colorful plastic in Jil Sander’s handbags this season Read more…

A City Love Affair

Color blocking is a major MAJOR trend this summer. It goes for everything from clothing to shoes, to even accessories. Well this weekend, I’ve been thinking a lot about this trend and about one accessory in particular: Balenciaga’ City Bag.  You can probably already guess why. When it comes to handbags, there’s really no other bag that does color quite like the City Bag. Not only does it cover every color of the rainbow, but moreover, it covers every (or almost every) shade imaginable. Thus, if you do have a budget for it, and you are looking for a way to color block in a jaw-dropping kind of way, live a little, and splurge on it sometime. After all, celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Dakota Fanning, Paris Hilton, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, and pretty much everyone else in Hollywood have one in their closet. Why shouldn’t you?! (Again, if you have the budget for it).

My Love For Rompers Reignited: McQ Resort 2012

My affinity for rompers has been on and off. Not sure how to explain it, but I guess I’ve stayed away from them just because the idea of shorts and top not being separate from each other always struck me as just too strange. Also, awkward. Now don’t get me wrong, there were times I came across rompers I sort of liked. Just never really enough to make them part of my wardrobe. A little unfortunate. I know.

Well… Not until I came across this chic navy romper with a corset like waist neon pink waist belt from McQ’s Resort 2012 collection anyway. With a blazer trip detailing, cap sleeves, and folded shorts, the McQ romper is relaxed enough for everyday wear, elegant enough for work, and edgy enough for a late night out. Alleluia! And let me tell you this, Read more…

H&M’s Next Gig: A Collaboration With Versace

Without question, this has been one hell of a big week for Versace. First, it was the lending of Gianni Versace’s iconic vintage pieces for Lady Gaga’s new music video, Edge of Glory (that premiered on thursday night’s So You Think You Can Dance). And now, we find out the legendary fashion house is collaborating with H&M for Pre-Spring and Fall. Yes, you heard correctly! How exciting is that?!

And yes, according to H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch, you can expect to see a predominantly leather studded collection interpreted by Versace’s classic designs from the 70′s onwards. In Donatella Versace’s own words, the collection for H&M will reinterpret “iconic Versace pieces [from] iconic Versace moments”. Meaning that in addition to the studs, we will also be seeing a lot of colorful prints and patterned silks in its dresses, as well as costume-like jewelry and high heels. How To Dress Like Aria From Pretty Little Liars: The Accessories Edition

Having already analysed the clothing side of Aria Montgomery‘s fashion on this blog, it was time to a closer look at the things without which Aria’s outfits would not be complete: her accessories. As I have previously mentioned in Dress Like…Aria – Pretty Little Liars Pt.2, Aria styles her outfits with eccentric accessories such as oversized feather earrings and colorful belts. We saw this in season 1, and we are seeing it again in season 2. Just rewatch the episodes, and you’ll see for yourself that Aria relies on nothing quite as much as quirky accessories to complete her everyday look.

And I’m not talking about just her earrings here. Although Aria has become known for her countless pairs of oversized earrings, necklaces and rings have been just as important in helping her pull together her looks. Like with earrings, Aria shows she is not one to be scared of bold and outrageous jewelry. Just recall her now famous skull knuckle rings (from Rachel Rachel Roy), for example. We’ve seen her obsession with them in episode Please Do Talk About Me When I’m Gone and in episode The New Normal in season 1. And don’t forget her favorite necklaces. As with clothes, vintage and indie inspired necklaces are her go-to jewelry pieces. Think of owl heads, claws, spider webs, skull heads, and clock charms / pendants, piled with beaded necklaces of all different lengths to create a trendy hip look. In the upper right, very similar to the clock necklace Aria wore, is the Clock Pendant from Topshop pictured.

Now, for more jewelry ideas inspired by Aria from Pretty Little Liars, take a look below. In the photo, pictured in the upper left hand corner is a selection of necklaces, rings, and bracelets from Rachel Rachel Roy. In the bottom right hand corner is a selection of jewelry pieces from Topshop. Although obviously these aren’t the only stores you could go to for accessories in the style of Aria, I think they are a great starting point.

Dakota Fanning Is The Lolita Of Marc Jacob’s New Fragrance Oh, Lola!

A lot of controversy has been stirred up by Marc Jacob’s latest Oh, Lola! ad campaign featuring Dakota Fanning. In the ad for Marc Jacob’s new fragrance, the teenage actress stares innocently at the camera, wearing a prepubescent girl’s polka dot dress, while holding a large bottle of the Oh, Lola! fragrance in between her legs. Marc’s inspiration: Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita.

“When we were speaking about who to use in the ads, I had recently seen the Runaways… I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet” Marc Jacobs told Women’s Wear Daily. Yes, seductive yet sweet she definitely is. But even though he owned up to it, does that give Marc’s ad any sort of legitimacy?!

Frankly, I don’t know I can even answer that. All I can say is that although I’m somewhat disappointed over the inspiration behind it, at least it wasn’t as sexually suggestive or aggressive as some of Tom Ford’s past campaigns. Looking at the photo, it wasn’t like Marc Jacobs could place the Oh, Lola perfume on Dakota Fanning’s head, right.

Emma Watson Covers Vogue’s July 2011 Issue

With the release of the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, set to hit the movie screens in a month from now, in an intimate interview with Vogue magazine in its July 2011 Issue, Emma Watson reveals the struggles she has had to overcome throughout the years. According to the Harry Potter star, of these, the greatest battle was that for her education. With all the things she had going on in her life, it was just too difficult to accommodate her studies even though Emma had kept on top of her schedule as she juggled different projects in her life.

In 2009, Christopher Bailer had invited her to be the spokesmodel for Burberry’ Ad Campaigns. And more recently, we saw Emma Watson extend her love for fashion and fair trade by designing a line sourced from all organic materials for a major fair trade clothing organization called People Tree. As she explains in the interview, “it was such hard work. I didn’t realize what I was taking on. I was doing twelve-hour days on Harry Potter and then coming home to work for two more hours, sizing and cutting designs.”

And this is precisely why I am especially glad that she found the time to do the Vogue photo shoot. Despite working herself almost to the ground, Emma Watson found it in herself to feed her fans’ obsession by delivering herself to them in a different light. Even though she was all about giggles and smiles in the group photographs, the solo shots were so dark and cryptic, it couldn’t help but force an edgier, never before seen side out of her. And I for one, very much enjoyed it!

Lidsay Lohan is Kira Plastinina’s Latest Muse!

Despite her US empire crumbling back in 2009, the young muscovite, Kira Plastinina, has re-entered our markets by unveiling her LUBLU Kira Plastinina Spring / Summer 2011 collection in New York last fall. And apparently, it was welcomed with open arms. According to the young designer’s website, the collection was regarded so highly, it may “soon find its way to wardrobes of fashionistas in [our own] busy and turbulent metropolis”.

And to help the process move along, of course the young designer wasn’t about to just sit around waiting for the stars to fall. Instead, Kira Plastinina went ahead and called on Lindsay Lohan for assistance. And although I’m not sure that it helped her too much in terms of gaining more visibility here, it did allow her to add another celebrity to her portfolio, and left her with a few compliments richer. Commenting on “Kira Plastinina for Lindsay Lohan”, Lindsay said

“The line is definitely something I would love to wear. I was really impressed by the way Kira expresses herself through her designs. I love styles that underline femininity but still leave enough space for self-expression. She is obviously a very talented designer and I am very pleased that I took part in the creative process.”

To preview the “Kira Plastinina for Lindsay Lohan”, check out the photos below. Although they are your basic, tops, shirts, shorts, and blazers, you have to admit, there’s something unique about them. They grab your attention like, if not more than Lindsay Lohan does.

Jennifer Lopez’ Stunning Campaign Ad For TOUS

After collaborating with the likes of Manolo Blahnik and Kylie Minogue, the Spanish jeweler TOUS has teamed up with Jennifer Lopez for its Spring 2011 Ad Campaign. Photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth, in a series of campaign ads that have already been released, Jennifer Lopez is portrayed very playfully and sensually, dressed in ethnic pieces and showing off her TOUS gems. Among them, are TOUS’ iconic teddy bear charms, that look as edible as they are enticing.

According to its president, Salvador Tous, the singer and actress’ genuineness and endlessly charismatic personality were the selling points that had made Jennifer the obvious choice for representing the brand this season. As Tous further explained, “Jennifer is not just an amazingly beautiful woman, but also a talented actress, musician and dancer sharing with us strong family values as we are a family-owned business”.

Fashion Forward Shades From Victoria Beckham For Spring / Summer 2011

Given my failure to sufficiently (or at all) comment on Victoria Beckham throughout this year, time called for a catch-up. Yes, I know - the post is long overdue! But in this situation, better late than never, I say. That aside, let me first say that after reviewing Victoria Beckham’s Eyewear from the Spring / Summer 2011 Accessories collection, I was absolutely in awe! Although I had always loved the sunglasses Victoria had custom-crafted and sported herself throughout the years, no other eyewear collection of hers had been so on target on style and shape as this was. No wonder celebs of all ages including Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Duff, and Vanessa Hudgens have shown a liking for Victoria Beckham’s sunglasses in addition to her line of clothes.

Unlike in previous seasons where sunglasses by Victoria Beckham had been a little too exaggerated for mainstream consumption; this Spring / Summer 2011 season, the designer got it just right with medium-sized trendy frames, including the cat’s eye, aviators, wayfarers, and the square smoky frame. Also this summer, the designer’s sunglasses differentiate themselves from its preceding collections by offering more color than the designer is usually used to. In addition to the classic blacks and browns, for the summer, Victoria Beckham stepped out of her comfort zone to offer sunglasses in shades of dark green, white, diamond grey, and gold – making for a wonderful collection overall!
